Life saving work in SaveSyria Medical Mission 2019

A shy 13-yr-old Alaa Ali Al-Saleem walked in tow with his mother to our clinic in Amman, Jordan with cold, cough, chest congestion symptoms. While he was four years older than his 9-year-old sister, he was the same height as her.

His mother consistently shared his upper respiratory complaints with our volunteer physician, Dr. Naznin Jamal and casually mentioned that Alaa had Hepatitis C.

Completely unaware of its complications on her child’s life, Alaa’s mother was counseled by the local doctor to give her son “honey and sweet things” to cure the disease.

Dr. Jamal became concerned as she realized Alaa is in a life-threatening situation and if left treated any longer, it can turn fatal for him. She contacted the local partners and asked them to explain Hepatitis C to his family and treatment options. Alaa’s mother was immediately connected with a Hematologist and proper treatment was underway.

Alaa’s diagnosis and immediate treatment was only possible because of our donors whose support helps us organize relief missions and provide life-saving consults to change lives like Alaa’s.
