IMANA attends “Our Response to President Trump’s Executive Orders” forum to discuss the impact it has on healthcare.
Rasheed Ahmed, IMANA’s Executive Director, was invited to “Our Response to President Trump’s Executive Orders” forum organized by the office of Congressman Bill Foster, the U.S. Representative for Illinois’s 11th congressional district. Over 300 people attended the forum at the Islamic Center of Naperville.
An Army veteran, an Army interpreter from Afghanistan, a high school student, a Syrian immigrant and an attorney shared how these executive orders impacted their lives or lives of many they know.
Rasheed shared with the audience and Congressman Foster the far reaching adverse impact the travel ban will have on the healthcare system of United States. There is a high probability of deteriorating healthcare services specifically in rural and underserved areas considering 25% of healthcare workers are foreign born from 51 countries with a majority Muslim population. The majority of foreign-born healthcare professional serve rural and underserve communities. Congressman Foster assured the audience that he would work with his colleagues to do all that is possible to oppose any travel ban based on religious affiliation.
