The IMANA Students & Residents Committee was formed with the goal to help facilitate professional networking and development opportunities. This committee is dedicated in advancing and shaping diversity in healthcare.

Objectives & Involvements

The IMANA Students & Residents Committee is dedicated to meeting the needs of pre-health (medicine, dental, optometry) students, residents, and International Medical Graduates (IMG) entering the healthcare profession. The Students & Residents Committee provides mentoring opportunities, valuable health care industry connections, guidance, resources essential for strengthening one’s career path through knowledgeable practitioners and volunteering opportunities, through international relief trips with IMANA Medical Relief (IMR).

Committee Chair

Dr Anam Tariq

Hassan Aboumerhi, MD

Hassan Aboumerhi, MD is a board-certified anesthesiologist and interventional pain specialist originally from Cleveland, OH. He has special expertise in neuromodulation and minimally-invasive interventions for chronic pain. He seeks continued innovation and meeting new challenges in the multidisciplinary field of pain medicine. Dr Aboumerhi is passionate about his background in medical education and global outreach. During his training, he won the M. Naziruddin Ali Award for Excellence National Scholarship and placed 2nd in the IMANA Essay competition. As a resident at the University of Chicago, he won the prestigious SEA-HVO Fellowship Award to teach anesthesiology in Vietnam as well as the Illinois Society of Anesthesiology Jeopardy Championship. Dr Aboumerhi continued to train in the subspecialty of pain medicine at Northwestern University before moving onto private practice taking care of the Chicagoland community. When he is not spending time with his family, he enjoys reading history and playing soccer.
