IMANA Dominican Republic CME

In the summer of 2016,  over 200 IMANA families enjoyed a weeklong getaway to the tropical paradise island of Hispaniola for our 48th annual convention at the Dominican Republic. We were delighted to see many old friends and enjoyed the opportunity to meet numerous new families who have recently joined our extended IMANA family.

The CME committee organized an advanced learning environment for physicians in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment, which was attended by approximately 70 IMANA members and local Dominican physicians as well. We were honored to partner with a local university, Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) for allowing us to host our conference on their beautiful campus. A handful of IMANA members in attendance are graduates of this leading university in health sciences and were delighted to visit their alma mater.

The Annual IMANA Banquet at the Hilton in Santo Domingo was well attended by IMANA members, families and a number of IMR volunteers which served as an excellent opportunity to honor Dr. Ismail Mehr, who completed his two year term as IMANA president.

Dr. Asif Malik accepted his position as IMANA president and also recognized Dr. Mehr for his laudable efforts in progressing IMANA’s mission goals and expanding our relief efforts across the world. Dr. Malik described him as “the heartbeat of IMANA’s relief work,” in reference to the IMR logo centralized on the heartbeat symbol across the globe.  Dr. Malik honored Dr. Mehr with an award for his heartfelt dedication to IMANA. Dr. Malik also presented the objectives to further expand the organization’s future goals.

In addition to the continuing medical conference, the group enjoyed a day tour of Santo Domingo the capital city. Learned about the rich history of the country followed by a visit to the old city where Christopher Columbus and his family first landed as they discovered the “New World”.

After spending three days in the historic Santo Domingo, we traveled to Punta Cana enjoying the remainder of the week at the Palladium resort.  The all-inclusive resort was simply “awesome” as old and young enjoyed the next four days of fun in the sun. The highlight in Punta Cana was having Shaikh Yasir Qadhi and his family join IMANA members on this serene island. The final evening was a memorable night, the resort staff organized a special barbeque for IMANA members on the beach capped off with a spiritually enlightening talk and prayers by Sh. Qadhi left an impression on the hearts of many.
