IMANA Education: Who We Are
After graduating from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Amber Khan went on to pursue health education. She has been a Muslim youth health educator for the past 11 years.
Dr. Amber Khan has devoted her medical training to Islamic health promotion and preventive medicine. She serves as a health educator at several schools and community centers focusing on physical, social, mental, reproductive and sexual health education. Her teaching includes puberty, hygiene, sex, community relationships, self-esteem, mental illness, drug and alcohol use, diet, exercise, and common medical illnesses.
She is currently the Chair of the Education Committee for the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA). She teaches preventive health education at the Detroit free clinic, HUDA and provides Islamic health talks for MAS, MYNA, ICNA, and ISNA. She leads discussions on women’s health, mental health, and tazkiyah (spiritual health).
Dr. Amber Khan also holds an Associates’ Degree in Islamic Studies from Mishkah University. She has focused her studies on Aqeedah and Dawah. She has led halaqas at her local masajids and college universities in Indiana and Michigan (University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Wayne State) for the past ten years, is an educator for New Muslim classes at Muslim Enrichment Project, and a volunteer Muslim chaplain at women correctional facilities.
She currently leads a weekly youth sisters halaqa in Canton, MI for the past four years.
